Session Ideas

'What training do we need anyway?'

This session is designed to look at the various needs of staff through small group discussion and a questionaire. Like students, teachers have different learning styles and this can be used as a starting point for a series of sessions to meet staff needs. Useful for a school new to SMART products or one looking to update their staff.

Suitable for: Large or small groups

Presentation style: Facilitator led discussion and questionnaire.

Duration: 1hour

'How SMART is a SMART Board™?'

This session can be used as an initial awareness raising session for staff to see the many and varied tools that are available in SMART Notebook and the ways that the SMART Board™ can be used in the classroom.

Suitable for: Large or small groups

Presentation style: Demonstration

Duration: 1-2 hours

 

'How can I make my own SMART Notebook files?'

This session is a hands on workshop session to work with teachers to develop SMART Notebook files to use in their classrooms. It can be run as a Beginners Workshop or as an Advanced Workshop.

Suitable for: Small groups (Min 6 - Max 12)

Presentation Style: Hands on. Teachers need to bring digital resources. Must be held in the 'Computer Room'. *

Duration: 2-3 hours for each Workshop

'Where do you get your ideas?'

This session provides staff with a hundred different ways they can use the SMART Board™ in their classroom. They range from 'Big Screen' ideas to 'Transforming Learning' ideas.

Suitable for: Large or small groups

Presentation style: Interactive demonstration

Duration:1.5 - 2 hours

'I am a Specialist Teacher - how can I use the SMART Board?'

Teacher Librarians, LOTE and Music teachers can make great use of the SMART Board with their students. Look at ideas for use with others in the same field.

Suitable for: Small groups (Min 6 - Max 12)

Presentation style: Hands on.

Duration: 2 hours - usually on a Saturday or during the holidays. Watch for advertising.

'Updating your knowledge of the new version'

SMART regularly updates their software with new versions and Patches. If you've had your SMART Board™ for a while this session will keep you up-to-date with the improvements and revitalise your staff use.

'So how can my SMART Board assist student learning?'

The SMART Board is a tool to assist teachers and students but how can we move it from being a 'nice big screen' to a tool that can impact student learning?

'Implementing SMART Boards in our school'

Do we start with one? Where should it go? Who 'gets it'? A look at the questions that confront each school as they implement IWBs into their school, what the research says and some helpful hints.

'SMART Board Mentors'

There may be a class of students who are to be trained as Mentors for the staff and students at the school. Our trainer will come in and work with the class and teacher to ensure they are familiar with the SMART Board and the SMART Notebook software and can help others in the school.

Suitable for: Yr 5/6/7 students

Presentation style: Interactive Demonstration

Duration: One hour per week over 3-4 weeks

'The Internet - the good the bad and the ugly'

The Internet is a great source of interactive resources and ideas but how can we critically analyse the offerings to find good quality digital resources that encourage collaboration and problem solving?

Suitable for: Large or small groups

Presentation style: Demonstration

Duration: 1-2 hour

This can be conducted as a 'Hands on' workshop if preferred.

 

What about in the SMART Board in the Secondary School?

While teachers can readily see the value of the SMART Board in the Primary School, this session looks at the many uses it can have in the Secondary context.

You received a single license for SMART Ideas when you registered your SMART Board for the extended warranty. This is a fantastic concept mapping programme that interacts with your SMART Board.

Duration: 1-2 hour

This can be conducted as a 'Hands on' workshop if preferred.
